On my birthday, my husband asked me what I wanted to do or have.  I asked him to drive.  We drove to West Virginia.  I remember it was a cloudy day, but in my memory everything remains bright.  It’s interesting how memory works.  It’s never exactly what you saw.  We add our feelings, experiences, and other mixed emotions on it.  It becomes a dream.

When you hear dream-like memories, they sound beautiful.  But there are also  nightmares.  Sometimes it feels like I’m adding insidious aspects in some of those nightmares.

I definitely try to focus on the beautiful ones like this one.  I was so happy listening to my favorite 90’s music and sing loudly.  The spring breeze coming from the sunroof was nice.  I was busy singing and looking around.  My husband was smiling at my silly singing voice.  It was such a wonderful birthday.

I hope everyone have more beautiful dream-like memories than the nightmarish ones!

One day, my husband decided to put a fishing chair on his head.  It made him look like  some kind of alien.  I think he does this kind silly stuff more because of my reaction.  I laughed so hard and took a bunch of pictures for our memory and my work material.

My husband loves pizza. When we went to pick up a pizza, he always had to have a slice before we drove back.  In Japan, the price of pizza is extremely high.  One large pizza (also smaller than in the U.S) is about $30.  When we visited the U.S. last year, we ordered pizza and some bread sticks and had surprising realization how cheap the pizza was.

I also remember when I was living with my sister in NJ, we used to order veggie pizzas from Papa John’s.  It was our favorite pizza back then.

What kind of pizza do you like the most?

There were two times I visited the emergency room.  The first time was when I was in high school.  After my school festival, I was helping one of the teachers clean up the posters on the wall.  When I removed one poster from the wall, it rolled from the wall and hit my eye.  I had to visit the hospital for weeks, but thankfully my eye is back to normal.

The second time I visited the emergency room was in early 2012.  I was visiting my in-laws and my husband.  My throat was a bit sore.  The pain got bad quickly, and I couldn’t drink water.  Because of that, I became weak and dehydrated.  My husband took me to the hospital and I took two full IVs and some medication.  It wasn’t anything serious but I was in enough pain that it made me think about my health.  It’s always like this; you don’t notice something good before it goes bad.  Also it’s easy to forget once it’s back.

It was very nice to enjoy the scenery after I got better.  Everything looked better and I even spotted a rainbow.

I don’t drink soda much, but after my doctor discharged me I asked him if I could drink soda.  I think I wanted to have something sharp that could scratch my throat.   The doctor was very nice too.  He had cool dreadlocks.   It’s almost impossible to see a doctor with hair like that in Korea.  I like this kind of freedom in the U.S.

Stay health everyone!

I think I talked about how much we love dogs so many times, but it is never enough.   Dogs always want to be with you.   They are the happiest members of your family when you come home.  They are the lights in your home.  They make our life brighter and livelier.

Here is another picture of me with a movie photo stand.  Even though it wasn’t the movie we were going to watch, I was so happy to take a picture.  Going to a movie theater was my regular activity when I was in Korea.  Korea has a lot of movie theaters and movies have may play times.  I noticed in Japan there are not so many play times and it’s a bit frustrating for me to choose the time from such a small selection.  Also when they play foreign animation, they do voice overs most of the time.  Some movie theaters play with no voice overs, but I found it wasn’t very common.  So, every time a new animation comes out, I can’t watch it in the theater.  But tomorrow, I have a movie date with my husband.  We’re watching Dead Pool 2.  One of our favorite Marvel series.  I’m so excited!

When I was living in New Jersey, I took Amtrak to Virginia many times.  I got on the train around 2 a.m. and slept the whole trip.  I sometimes caught the sunrise from my window.  I also saw the sunset when I went back to NJ.  The sunrise made me happy I would see my husband soon, and the sunset made me sad I wouldn’t see him for awhile.

Planes provide faster travel, but trains also has their own romance.

My longest train ride in the states was from New York to Chicago.  How far have you gone by train?

One day, I took care of some stuff and came up to the room in his home in Japan.  Then I saw him in his underwear and wearing the hat he bought in Hawaii, playing a game.  He has very weird yet funny ideas that make me laugh.

I sometimes find him in front of a pizza box holding a slice like Buddha.   Other times he simply hid and I had to find him.  I started to hide from him too.  But the problem is, I can’t compose my self in that situation and I burst out laughing at my husband’s search.  I’m the worst hide and seek player.

After a playful day, it usually ended with driving around.  We used to find random spots to stop and look around.  Everything was so blue up on the observation spot we found.  We were the only people, and just a few cars were passing by.  It was very relaxing.

There is a Yakiniku place we liked to go to near the base.  We used to order big glasses of beer and some sake later on.  Back in 2011, he had to drive so I drank most of the sake, it was a good time.  Driving back home after a great dinner,  the wild white flowers glowing in dim street lights were prettier than ever.

We haven’t gone to this restaurant for a couple of years now.  We always planned to go but it is too far away from us.  But we enjoy our beer at other restaurants.  One of my favorite things to do is have a  glass of beer with my husband at lunch when he has some free time before work.  Thinking about it makes me want to drink some beer.  We don’t have any at the moment, that’s a shame.

Boots was my parent in law’s dog.  It seems like we didn’t have many memories of her.  My husband said he left home for the military shortly after she joined his family.

When I went through pictures for this project, I found quite a lot of pictures of her.  We also talked about funny instances of her often.  Every time we did, I missed her, even though I wasn’t really family back then.

She liked my husband.  She listened to him the most in the family, even though he was never there.  She was such a nice dog.

Every time we visit Virginia, we always go to Busch Gardens.  I love drinking beer and walking around the park.  I’m scared of roller coasters but love to ride them.  It takes me some time to get used to the feeling again but once I do, the fear becomes joy.

I always liked to go to an amusement park when I was young.  It was too expensive for me as a kid, and my parents weren’t very interested in going there so I couldn’t go often.  One of the kids I was jealous of had an annual membership of the park.  When I have kids I think I’ll always bring them to the park.

In Korea, there is a giant wooden roller coaster in Everland park.  It drops 12 times and the ride is over 3 minutes!  The first time I rode it, my friend almost cried and I thought it’d never stop.  My husband is a big fan of roller coasters, but he hasn’t ridden it yet.  I really want to bring him there soon.

If you like to ride a roller coaster and chance to visit Korea, you should check it out.

It was late January.  I was back in the U.S.  The new semester just started and I was getting busy.  My husband told me that he had a business trip to Hawaii.  When he arrived in Hawaii, he did his work and got some days off to enjoy the island.  He asked me if I wanted to join him.  I got surprised by his sudden suggestion.  But I really wanted to go so I told my teachers and got generous understandings.  I flew to the island shortly after and met my husband.  I landed around sunset.  The sunlight reflecting on the vast airport ground was so shiny and beautiful.  My husband said he wasn’t thinking about inviting me over.  But the island was so beautiful, he wanted to enjoy it with me.  It was the most surprising event I got from my husband.  He bought a hat there for the extreme sunlight.  I posed with that hat and I looked like a witch, but a very happy one.

I remember when I was checking in at the airport to fly to Hawaii.  The lady at the checking account said she was jealous of me.  I hope she got a nice vacation shortly after.

We had this cake for our first Christmas together.  I knitted a scarf for him and he gave me a Nintendo DS.  We hung out at his place watching movies and eating cake.  It’s nice to go out on Christmas, enjoying all the lively streets and places.  For us though,  we like to snuggle at home.  After we got married, I started making a cake and special dinner for us.  I’m very much looking forward to this Christmas!  Christmas isn’t a holiday in Japan, so my husband needs to go to work.  That’s ok though. We’ll still have an awesome night! Also, I still have the Santa that’s in my painting.

My husband and I love rain and snow.  I feel like a kid again every time it snows.  Our favorite season is winter.  We like to walk around at night and have some hot drinks or eat a bowl of hot soup at a restaurant.  If it snows, it gets better!  Usually, nobody is out when it’s cold and snowing outside.  We can have the entire road to ourselves!  One thing I’m sorry for being here in Tokyo is that there are not many days with snow.  I hope for some more this year!
