At the beach, we had so much fun.  I don’t know how long we were in the water, but I remember I was so tired from laughing too much.  I jumped into the water from his shoulder.  We chased each other around.   Also, he snuck up to me under water like a sea monster.  We finally came out from the water and relaxed for a bit.  He played rock skipping.  I tried too but I’m not very good at it.  All my rocks were going straight into the water.

It was our last time we went into the water at a beach.  It was such a fun day.  I can’t wait for our next time in the sea!

It was late January.  I was back in the U.S.  The new semester just started and I was getting busy.  My husband told me that he had a business trip to Hawaii.  When he arrived in Hawaii, he did his work and got some days off to enjoy the island.  He asked me if I wanted to join him.  I got surprised by his sudden suggestion.  But I really wanted to go so I told my teachers and got generous understandings.  I flew to the island shortly after and met my husband.  I landed around sunset.  The sunlight reflecting on the vast airport ground was so shiny and beautiful.  My husband said he wasn’t thinking about inviting me over.  But the island was so beautiful, he wanted to enjoy it with me.  It was the most surprising event I got from my husband.  He bought a hat there for the extreme sunlight.  I posed with that hat and I looked like a witch, but a very happy one.

I remember when I was checking in at the airport to fly to Hawaii.  The lady at the checking account said she was jealous of me.  I hope she got a nice vacation shortly after.

After my husband got a car, we went for a drive almost everytime we got a chance.  We don’t like crowded places but love to see new things.  Driving around is perfect for us.  We drove around the countryside of Japan without a map or GPS.  Many times we just followed one road without a destination.  One time we ended up at the top of a mountain.  Even though there was no snow where we started, the top had quite a bit of it.  We took some pictures and continued driving down the same road.  On the opposite side of the mountain, we arrived at a small town with many tiny vineyards.  Unknowingly, we discovered a great grape town!

When we went to Kotoku-in Temple to see the Great Buddha, we had to take a pretty long train ride.  On the train, my husband pointed at something outside.  I turned around to look but for some reason, I turned looked over my other shoulder to see, so eventually, I had to turn over 180 degrees to see it.  I don’t even remember what it was but I remember so well how much we laughed together after my silly act.

Kotoku-in Temple was nice.  The size of the Great Buddha was amazing.  A kind man offered to take our picture, and he took it very nicely.  When it was getting dark, the temple started to turn on the lights above our heads.  Orange light against the dark blue sky told us it’s time to go home.

In Japan, I’m inspired by small city views, especially with power lines.  In Korea, where I’m from, don’t have a lot of power lines on the street.  It was a relatively new area in Seoul, so they put most of them underground.  In Japan, the power lines cross the roofs and sky all around the country.  They look chaotic but also harmonized.  One of my favorite scenes in Japan is the contrast of black wires against sunrise or sunset.

I saw this view in Kamakura. I also took a picture of my husband posing for me in Kotoku-in Temple.

One of the fascinating things about Tokyo is that there are various themed bars. My husband and I went to an ice bar with a few friends. All the drinks were served in ice cups and decorated with some ice statues. Two of them were concave and convex shape boxes. It made our face and body look so strange.

It was Summer when we went there, but we had to wear these big thick ponchos to be warm. I think we were interested in them more than anything else. My husband made all sorts of poses in it. One of them was this. He was hiding in the big hoody and looking out like he’s alert. For me, he looked like some kind of a bad magician or a cowboy in the winter looking out into a snowy field.

We had this cake for our first Christmas together.  I knitted a scarf for him and he gave me a Nintendo DS.  We hung out at his place watching movies and eating cake.  It’s nice to go out on Christmas, enjoying all the lively streets and places.  For us though,  we like to snuggle at home.  After we got married, I started making a cake and special dinner for us.  I’m very much looking forward to this Christmas!  Christmas isn’t a holiday in Japan, so my husband needs to go to work.  That’s ok though. We’ll still have an awesome night! Also, I still have the Santa that’s in my painting.

My husband and I love rain and snow.  I feel like a kid again every time it snows.  Our favorite season is winter.  We like to walk around at night and have some hot drinks or eat a bowl of hot soup at a restaurant.  If it snows, it gets better!  Usually, nobody is out when it’s cold and snowing outside.  We can have the entire road to ourselves!  One thing I’m sorry for being here in Tokyo is that there are not many days with snow.  I hope for some more this year!

I got this chocolate-rose from my mother in law.  She sent it all the way from the U.S. When we just started dating, he told me that he told his mother about me and she was so happy that we met.  My parents, on the other hand, weren’t very open to my dating life.  I’ve never told them about any of my old boyfriends.  When I heard that, I felt bad about hiding his existence in my life.  I told my mom almost immediately.  She wasn’t happy at first but she understood we were very serious about each other after about 3 years.  Now both of my parents really like their second son in law. :)

From time to time he had extra days off.  If he couldn’t leave the base I visited him almost every day during those days.  I brought my English books so I can still study while hanging out with him.  We spent some time separately doing our own stuff.  I liked the fact that we can be together and also be ourselves doing our own thing.  We still do this.  During weekends, if I still have some work to do, I bring all the equipment to the living room so I can sit down next to him and vice versa.  Right this moment, he is enjoying his game time and I’m writing this right next to him. Oh and I always want to hear bad news first!

The first shoes my husband ever bought for me were these chucks.  In Korea, there is a superstition about buying a pair of shoes for your partner.  Some people believe that the person who received the shoes will run away wearing them.  I never believed this kind of myth but it’s always fun to listen to.  I’ve heard that it’s bad luck to open an umbrella in the house.  Another superstitious thing in Korea is whistling at night.  Old folks used to say if you do that a snake will come out.

What kind of myths does your country have? Do you believe it?

Since we had limited days and times during our dating years, spending time together on weekends became an unspoken rule for us.  Unless we have other important schedules, we usually hang out together.  Because he is so busy, we barely spend time together during weekdays.  Even though I work from home and have a fairly flexible schedule, I am always looking forward to the coming weekend!  If there is a holiday before or after the weekends, we feel like we hit the jackpot!!

What are you all doing or have done on weekends?  We played scary games for our own extended Halloween! :)
